We operate two wood fired mobile saunas for public + private use, with residencies in different areas of the Hudson Valley.
Opening the sauna door to introduce Kelly, the brain behind Big Towel Spa.
Kelly grew up in Philadelphia and also some in LA where her mom often asked her to come along on her regular visits to the Korean spas. Kelly refused in her own teenage way. She made her own way to the sauna, somehow, much later in the YMCA on 14th st in NYC. Becoming hooked on getting hot and getting cold in the pool and sauna.
When she moved to the Hudson Valley in 2018 she knew she wanted to bring saunas to the community.
She is fueled by her collaborators and visitors and loves seeing the project evolve as everyone breathes life into these beautiful boxes of heat and steam! As the name suggests, she hopes that there is a space for everyone at the local sauna.

Saunas are a living breathing space metaphorically and physically. Big Towel has teamed up with photographer Cassie Cummins, who shoots at the sauna on film to capture the life of saunas and the people that go in them.
